Saturday football
In yesterday’s post (‘If the stars align’), CanningTownWA noted that all but one of the weekend’s games impact the relegation places. It’s not often that all the footballing stars do align to West Ham’s benefit, but there’s a good chance that most will today. Just three points separate the bottom six, so whatever happens could bring significant change. There’ll be much to discuss on Match of the Day this evening.

BOURNEMOUTH vs LIVERPOOL (1230)
Liverpool did their goal difference a world of good last week and will hope to add further to that in the early kick-off. The Cherries, now rock bottom on goal difference, will clutch at anything that fate may bring them. Which probably won’t be a lot. Away win.

EVERTON vs BRENTFORD (1500)
Everton have played a game more than those around them and don’t look quite as confident as they did when Sean Dyche took over. The Bees, on the other hand, are shining like the North Star with confidence gushing from every orifice. They’ll look to their visit to Goodison to climb into European territory. Things looking sticky for the Toffees. Away win.

LEEDS UNITED vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION (1500)
Things ain’t looking too rosy for Leeds and Brighton as we know are no easy opposition. If the Seagulls can repeat last week’s result they’ll do us all a massive favour. Away win.

LEICESTER CITY vs CHELSEA (1500)
Three points for Chelsea last time out, a rare achievement that they’ll be very keen to build on. The Foxes’ season has experienced a sharp about turn after pulling themselves up from bottom spot some weeks ago. They’re back in the deep, dark mire, that’s for sure. Away win.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs NOTTINGHAM FOREST (1500)
Forest’s away form is abysmal. Long may that continue. Much talk about this game will inevitably focus on Antonio Conte, because the media do love a good dig. For today, let’s hope that Spurs canter to an expected victory. Home win.

CRYSTAL PALACE vs MANCHESTER CITY (1730)
Palace are probably safe, but they’re nowhere out of woods just yet. A couple of poor results may get the old sweat glands doing their stuff in Thornton Heath. City remain in touching distance of Arsenal and will be in no hurry to give that up. Away win.

*SUNDAY*

FULHAM vs ARSENAL (1400)
Fulham are nobody’s fools and cannot be taken lightly – not even by a side gunning for the title. It’ll be a tough game for Arsenal, but they’ve probably got the wherewithal to come away with all three points. Away win.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs SOUTHAMPTON (1400)
Man U did well to shake off their magnificent defeat to Liverpool with a midweek European win. Lucky for them they’ve got weak opponents today. Home win.

WEST HAM UNITED vs ASTON VILLA (1400)
Consistency lost plays consistency regained. That’s what a well-chosen new manager can do. Villa look to have done enough to ensure safety and under boss Emery will hope to add whatever further points may be on offer. As for us, we go into this on the back of a comprehensive league win followed by an equally comprehensive league defeat and a comfortable win by the warm waters of the Mediterranean. Where does that leave things in the approach to this game? Both stars and tea leaves will have to be aligned if we’re to grab all three points today. Draw.

NEWCASTLE UNITED vs WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (1630)
A massive chance for the Barcodes to return to winning ways and use their game/s in hand to apply pressure on Liverpool and Spurs. Wolves have opened a healthy gap over the bottom three, but still have an eye over their shoulders and will be fortunate to get anything from the northeast. Home win.

*WEDNESDAY*

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION vs CRYSTAL PALACE (1930)
The A23 derby has the south coast club in pole position and there’s little to suggest that Palace will drive home with even one additional point in the bag. Home win.

SOUTHAMPTON vs BRENTFORD (1930)
The Saints are battling for every point. Points have been rather more forthcoming for Brentford and the visitors will start as firm favourites at St Mary’s. Away win.

*CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND-UP*

Burnley and Sheff U consolidated their places at the top of the Championship, while the gap between the bottom three – Wigan, Huddersfield and Blackpool – and Cardiff in 21st place widened by another point last week. Burnley host Wigan this afternoon. Top versus bottom; what could possibly go wrong? Millwall slipped out of the play-off places last week but will hope to return when they visit Reading this afternoon. One place behind them are Coventry, who remarkably were rock bottom just a couple of months ago. They host mid-table Hull today.

Our relegation rivals all have tough games…

If only we could win vs Villa we could jump a few places…

What will Moyes do….???

Thanks Coffee.

I only want to see one result this weekend, that is a win of any kind against Villa. If not the shite we are in will deepen and become even smellier.

Some big 3pm games today, which is always good.

The Everton game is intriguing, if they lose it may be concluded that Dychie boy won't be any better than all before him after the initial bounce.

Would love to see Forest beat Spurs, but they're an appalling away side so doubt it will happen.

Re: Saturday football
It’s all very well other relegation rivals losing matches where we could benefit, but to achieve any of the benefits we need to get points on the board, I think with our management and strategy the team have only showed one direction they’re travelling in.

Live in hope.

Cheers Coffee.

However, I do note a lot of 'wishful thinking' in your predictions. The probability is that a relegation rival(s) will pick up a point(s).

Oh and I've corrected the typo in your Spurs preview:

“Much talk about this game will inevitably focus on Antonio Conte, because the media do love a good wig.”

Re: Saturday football
Really gutsy performance from Bournemouth so far. They WANT to try and win this. Despite being completely overmatched in terms of quality they are pressing high, being brave and getting forward to attack any time they can AS WELL as keeping it as tight as they can at the back and goalless so far. They’ve sprung the offside trap twice and had two glorious chances. 50-50 possession after 20 mins too.

Moyes take note. This lot, despite being far talented than your own players, are going down fighting, not like a bunch of fucking frightened cowards huddling in the corner.

El Scorchio 3:07 Sat Mar 11
Re: Saturday football
And it’s 1-0 Bournemouth. Fortune favours the brave. Just reward for really giving it a go and not letting Liverpool settle in and walk all over them. It’s sort of been coming.

Fuck off Moyes.

If we are going to survive we need to fight for every ball and not let teams take control.

Re: Saturday football
Bournemouth have pace, aggression and desire. We don’t have any of that. Phillip Billing making great runs from midfield which is something Rice did for a little while last season but Moyes reverted him back to defence first when results nosedived rather than realising Soucek was the issue due to his lack of pace and athleticism. Imho of course.

Paqueta has helped but Rice for me is better carrying the ball and getting us in the proverbial front foot. We are not coached to do that.

Accept the worst and hope for the best but teams around us are having a go and we don’t

Manuel 3:42 Sat Mar 11
Re: Saturday football
It's only HT, Liverpool could easily win this still. The Cherries do look decent though, but still think they will drop.

Coffee 4:03 Sat Mar 11
Re: Saturday football
The side that put seven past Man U cannot score against lowly Bournemouth. That should not be a pen.

El Scorchio 4:05 Sat Mar 11
Re: Saturday football
What really fucks me off is that this display and last weeks by Bournemouth (even though they ultimately lost and they may end up losing today) proves that by competing with these teams and taking it to them that you can out them under pressure, make it hard for them and get results. They are beatable. They do have off days. They are not some deities that you have to stand off of in awe and let them have their way with you like you shouldn’t be on the same turf.

It isn’t hard for us to adopt the same attitude rather than cowering in our own penalty box.

And as I say all that, Liverpool get what I think is an incredibly fortunate penalty which Salah has just made a right hash of. The one time we need the cunt to score.

If Bournemouth win this, then good luck to them even if it’s a disaster for us. They will have deserved and earned it.

Amazing what happens when you actually go and attack teams.. Wonder if Moyes is taking note.
Winning its what I do hahahaha

Re: Saturday football
The omens all bad, Salah misses a pen.

We are going down l strongly suspect. We just look slower , less fit and zero adventure

We deserve to go down tbh
